Dead Island 2 has had struggles through its development and now it is delayed once more. The news was broken via Embracer Group’s Interim Report Q2, and then was officially announced on DeadIsland’s Twitter account stating that the new release date will be April 28th, 2023. This is just under three months from its February 3rd, 2023 release date.
“The irony of delaying Dead Island 2 is not lost on us, and we are as disappointed as you undoubtedly are. The delay is just 12 short weeks and development is on the final straight now; we’re going to take the time we need to make sure we can launch a game we’re proud to launch. For those of you who’ve been waiting years, thank you for hanging in there with us.”

Dead Island 2 by Dambuster Studios
Originally announced back in 2014 for a 2015 release, publisher Deep Silver (Saints Row, Maneater) has struggled to hold onto a development studio to create the game. Yager Development first had a development deal with Deep Silver but was dropped in 2015 due to “Yager and Deep Silver’s respective visions of the project falling out of alignment”. Sumo Digital (Little Big Planet 3, Forza Horizon 4) was then given development rights before being dropped in 2019 for an unspecified reason. Dambuster Studios, an internal studio of Deep Silver, has been working on the game since then.
A Dead Island 2 showcase featuring a new trailer and gameplay will be premiering on Dead Island’s Twitch & YouTube channels as well as on the Dead Island website on December 6th, 2022.
Dead Island 2 will be releasing on April 28th, 2023 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC.
